Annotation as inhabitation
- [x] There are always gaps of lacking knowledge in between. I use Annotation as a means to deliberately fill those gaps. Gaps of sense, gaps of understanding, gaps of uncertainty, gaps of communication, gaps of value and meaning
- [x] Annotation 2D to Annotation 3D
- [x] Realise it cannot be done accurately
- [x] So then I booked hotel stays in nice resorts and villas for 3 nights with the family or at that time as a couple and I would take my mesuring tape with me and spend a day of the holiday to measure up the space and recreate them digitally from scratch to the details of the louvre sizes, tile sizes, bathrooms pools everything
- [x] And when I did that I really discovered a sensibility of space that I had never had before.
- [x] This is the hidden part of my practice that I believe started out as an obsession with annotation in 2D mood boards and materials, moving into 3D modelling and actual appreciation of spatial qualities and when I now look at the 2D space or digital space the way I see is profoundly different.
- [x] The stuff that I gained from this process was just incredible, a very valuable process for me.
- [x] I think this really changed the way I now see space and negotiate with space
- [x] Really see the project for its nuanced spatial qualities in real time in slow way, an awareness of space beyond concept and designers intentionality
- [x] This chapter on inhabitation discusses annotation as inhabitation. On reflection this plays a significant role in my design process. If we do not inhabit the places we design and use them with a similar depth as the owner, there is experience that is lost between using as a tourist vs using as a user. Short self vs Long self.
- [x] I would argue that inhabiting the work before, during and after construction is critical in closing the loop of all the discussions, intentions and outcomes.
Level of awareness of personal space, private interiority. Awareness, sense of space, atmosphere. The way I create draws a lot from my archive of habitats. Memory of encounter, reaction, use of space.
